The beautiful Cass from Cass Can Sew has revived the great Sunday Session linky party. I think I may have linked up to this one a couple of times and was sad to see it go. Music is one of my greatest passions. I can't live without it. Any kind of music. It stirs up so emotion in me, none as much as what "I Dreamed a Dream" did yesterday when I saw Ann Hathaway sing it in the movie "Les Misérables" starring Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.
I love a good musical but "Les Misérables" had never been high on my list of must sees. I know so many people who have raved about it. It's been to my capital city many times but I just never bothered. "Phantom of the Opera" remains one of my most favourite musicals of all time but after seeing the movie version of Les Mis yesterday, Phantom might be knocked out of first place.
Besides Susan Boyle doing a very good rendition of the song in the UK television show "Britain's Got Talent" it just summed up how powerful this song really is. It means more to me now when I see Susan sing it. She deserves every success she has received. And what a powerful performance by Ann Hathaway, even if she wasn't on screen for very long.
"There was a time when men were kind
When their voices were soft
And their words inviting
There was a time when love was blind
And the world was a song
And the song was exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrong."
I dreamed a dream, for a very long time. I dreamed that love would never die. It did. I dreamed a dream my life would be, so different from the hell I was living. But I'm dreaming new dreams now.

Thanks so much for linking up Anne! I'll be honest and say that I'm not a fan of Su-bo ... but I'd love to see Les Mis. The reviews for the movie look fantastic! I wonder if I can organise a baby sitter so that I can catch it in the cinemas.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen Les Mis live but my husband has a CD recording of the London production from many moons ago and the songs are incredibly powerful (I'm also a longtime Phantom fan - saw it in London and loved it instantly). I wasn't planning on seeing it but I may have to try to, as so many people have been raving about it - thanks for sharing Anne!
ReplyDeleteI've seen Les Mis as a theatre production, so I'm kind of reluctant to see it in the movies; I feel I might be disappointed. I enjoyed seeing this video of Susan Boyle, if only to see Simon Cowell gobsmacked!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Anne. I am not a huge fan of Les Mis. But I love, Love, LOVE that clip and Susan Boyle singing it. I've just watched it again and yes, the hairs on my arms stood up....again. Thank you for sharing. M x
